Why Do We Need Song Writers Anymore?

Apparently, some tricky software engineers along with some neuroscience students partnered with a company to make a device that reads your brain waves to understand what sort of mood you are in and then creates music using an artificial intelligence. This music progresses as your brain waves do and delivers you the kind of music that your brain is craving. And it appears to work quite well.

According to an article in Physics.org Online titled: Endless original, copyright-free music, on June 1st, 2009. It stated and I quote:

“A group of researchers from the University of Granada has developed Inmamusys, a software program that can create music in response to emotions that arise in the listener. By using Artificial Intelligence techniques, the program means that original, copyright-free, and emotion-inspiring music can be played continuously.”

This is a nice device for emotional tranquility, happiness, and positive behavior, but we must also consider the ramifications for song writers too. Something like this, perhaps not this exact device or scheme, but something within the realm of what they’ve done here could indeed put musicians and song writers out of business.

There will come a day in the future when artificial intelligence can out innovate and create humans, and although it might not be the first jobs that AI computers snatch up, for instance the CRM incoming telemarketing corporate call centers, it will eventually win out over humans. For song writers this software is only a first step, to their future unemployment so please consider all this.
